Readers
If, at any point, you are interested in a reader position in the Department we ask that you view our course schedules on GOLD (search for undergraduate upper-division courses and review course descriptions) and that you contact instructors directly, via email, to express your interest in a position. Contact information for all faculty in the Department of Black Studies can be found on our dept. website: www.blackstudies.ucsb.edu/office_hours.html . If an instructor asks for a copy of your CV please send it to him/her directly and do not submit materials to the department. Please also avoid submitting interest emails to the department as we will reply indicating the info. above.
Readers are paid $12.97 per hour (pay is $12.32 for readers who do not hold a bachelor's degree), and the max hours available depend on the number of students enrolled. Only after an instructor decides to hire an individual are calculations made regarding how many hours can be worked. Reader positions are at 11% and do not qualify for any fee remission. Questions about the exact duties for a particular reader position should be sent to the instructor directly.
