He received the Baccalaureat Philosophie from the Academie de Paris, and an MA and Ph.D. in French Literature & Linguistics from the University of California, Santa Barbara. Dr. Pigeon's areas of specialization and interest are Francophone African and Caribbean literature, French and English literature, language and phonetics of the Caribbean, and oral traditions and popular culture in Afro-American culture. Among his numerous published books are Favelas (Les Editions St. Germain), Le Choix, Edition St. Germain; and Frontiere (Oswald, Paris, 1976). He has also translated the complete dramatic work of Aimé Césaire. His work in progress includes "Etched in Black," (accepted Ashgate, London) and an untitled work on the pre-Negritude writers. He is an accomplished writer in both French and English.
