Black Studies and the Letters and Science General Education Program


Many Black Studies courses satisfy General Education (GE) and/or Special Subject requirements within the College of Letters and Science at UCSB. We invite you to browse through the lists below to see what GEs and Special Subject requirements you can fulfill by taking our courses! Should you have any questions about the Letters and Science General Education Program at UCSB please call the College of Letters and Science at (805) 893-2038 or go to 1117 Cheadle Hall and start by talking to one of the advising associates in the front reception area.

Please Note: A UCSB Black Studies course which is not currently listed under a particular GE/Special Subject Area cannot be petitioned to count towards that area. The only exception is for the Writing Requirement. Students can go to the link below to download and print the instructions and petition needed to request that a UCSB Black Studies course count towards the Writing requirement. Petitions and required supporting materials must be submitted directly to the College of Letters and Science Academic Advising Office located at 1117 Cheadle Hall.
