Consistent with UCSB’s membership in the American Association of Universities, the successful candidate must have a nationally impactful research and publication record. Qualified applicants must hold a Ph.D. in the social sciences or engage the social sciences in related fields such as Black Studies, Cultural Studies, Environmental Studies, Legal Studies, Public health, Science and Technology, or Urban Studies. successful candidates must have a proven track record or a strong interest in departmental administration and program development, as well as a willingness to develop new initiatives while maintaining current departmental research and teaching strengths. Candidates must also demonstrate a record of outstanding teaching and by extension, have a commitment to undergraduate education. The department welcomes candidates interested in expanding the department’s recently approved Doctoral Emphasis Certificate Program.

The Chair position is subject to renewal on a three-year basis, pending review of the candidate’s performance. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
